Planting a tree seeks a simple and straightforward goal. Whoever reaches that goal will be able to see it grow and enjoy its shadow. An ineffectual and authoritarian regime will not tolerate anything that is done without its express consent, not even beautiful and productive acts, since it will hold onto power beyond all reason. A tree roots so as to thrive and flourish. And eventually, even when its visible part is torn away, its essence will find a way to overcome adversity and endure.
