Cata will see her summer vacation disrupted by the absurd and sudden death of her grandmother, which only she witnesses. Her grief shifts when she casually turns to play pretend, transforming herself into the deceased. What begins as a game of dress-up will blur the lines of reality and family roles.
Lucía Aleñar Iglesias
Born in Madrid in 1993, she lives in Los Angeles. She holds a degree in Film from New York University and an MFA in Screenwriting from Columbia University. She worked in production for filmmakers such as Oscar winner Peggy Stern, Tina Di Feliciantonio, and Jane Wagner, and in the casting department on films like ‘Good Time’ (Safdie brothers, 2017), before directing in 2020 ‘Forastera’, her debut short film which was nominated for the Gaudí Awards and selected for Cannes Critics’ Week and at festivals such as Curtas Vila do Conde, Les Arcs, Gijón, Portland, and Aguilar de Campoo. The story was developed into a feature film within the framework of the Critics’ Week’s Next Step program and in the Cannes Film Festival’s La Résidence. ‘Forastera’ (2025), her first feature film, had its world premiere in the Discovery section of the Toronto International Film Festival, where it won the Fipresci International Critics’ Award.
