At the dawn of the 20th century, Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show rolls into Italy, peddling the myth of the American frontier and sparking the imagination of Rosa, a young woman trapped in a stifling marriage to a powerful and violent landowner. When a rodeo between American cowboys and Italian butteri ends in tragedy, Rosa flees with Santino, the daring local rider who bested the Americans. But in a world where justice is sold to the highest bidder, Buffalo Bill and others join the hunt for the bounty on Santino’s head. Rosa’s dream of freedom quickly collides with the weight of reality —and like in every good Western ballad, fate flips a coin.
Alessio Rigo de Righi, Matteo Zoppis
Italian American directors born in 1986. Their collaboration started with the short documentary ‘Belva Nera’ (2013, awarded at Cinéma du Réel) and the documentary ‘Il Solengo’ (2015, selected at Rotterdam and honoured at Doclisboa, Turin or Márgenes). Their first fiction feature film, ‘The Tale of King Crab’ (2021), premiered at Cannes’ Quinzaine des Réalisateurs and was awarded at the Viennale. Their work focuses on folk tales and legends of the peasant lore and on the incomplete and imperfect mechanism of oral tradition that ends up giving rise to new stories. Their films have been featured and awarded in festivals like Cannes, New York Film Festival, IFFR, Karlovy Vary, Göteborg, Viennale, Bafici, São Paulo, Cinéma du Réel, Doclisboa, RIDM and Torino Film Festival. ‘Heads or Tails?’ (2025) premiered at the Cannes Festival’s Un Certain Regard section and was selected for participation at Locarno.
