Aljarria. A small town in southern Spain, 1971. During her wake, the death of Doña Matilde Cisneros brings together her three daughters, Modesta, Manuela and Mercedes, and her eldest son Eugenio who, in need of collecting his share of the inheritance, is forced to return to the town from which he had to flee fifteen years before. The return ofEugenio awakens dormant feelings of reproach and revenge in Don Andrés, the village priest, who uses his resentment against the Cisneros family in order to manipulate thetown residents’ weakened will. But what about Dona Matilde’s inheritance? During the night of the wake all the hatred, resentment and frustration, together with the darkest secrets of the Cisneros family, will come to light in the presence of the mother’s dead body.
