María José is a young lady from the Madrid bourgeoisie and Juan, her lover, works as a university professor. While returning to Madrid after an adulterous rendezvous, the couple hits a cyclist with their car. After approaching him they find out that he is still breathing, but gripped by fear they decide to flee, and leave him dying. The shadow of the abandoned cyclist will haunt them ever since, awakening their pain and their conscience in different ways.
