Benito Zambrano’s ‘Intemperie’ will kick off the 64th edition of Seminci

07/26/2019.- Intemperie, the fourth feature by Seville-born director Benito Zambrano, will start off the 64th edition of the Valladolid International Film Festival on 19 October. The film, which will compete in the official section of the festival, is the screen adaptation of a successful novel by Jesús Carrasco scripted by Zambrano himself in collaboration with Pablo and Daniel Remón (Five Square Meters, Casual Day). It tells the moving story of the friendship between a goatherd, who has been living apart from society for quite some time, and a young boy who sets out on a journey across the desert in order to  escape from the relentless village sheriff. The film’s cast is led by Luis Tosar, Luis Callejo, Vicente Romero, Manolo Caro, Kándido Uranga and the young actor Jaime López.

Benito Zambrano gained recognition with his feature debut Solas, shot in 1999 and awarded numerous prizes like Mexico’s Silver Ariel for Best Ibero-American Film, or the CICAE and Audience awards in the Berlinale’s Panorama section. The film moreover bagged five Goya Awards in the categories Best Supporting Actress (María Galiana), Best Leading Actress (Ana Fernández), Best New Actor (Carlos Álvarez-Nóvoa), Best Original Screenplay and Best New Director.

In 2005 Zambrano directed Havana Blues, which earned him some other two Goya Awards for Best Original Score and Best Editing. Six years later, in 2011, he made his third feature, The Sleeping Voice, which received three Goyas, respectively for Best Supporting Actress (Ana Wagener), Best New Actress (María León) and  Best Original Song.

Intemperie was shot in the Spanish province of  Granada and has been produced by Morena Films (Juan Gordon and Pedro Uriol) in partnership with Intemperie La Película A.I.E., Marta Velasco from Aralan Films and the Portuguese production company Ukbar Filmes, and with the participation of RTVE and Movistar+. It will be distributed by A Contracorriente Films and its theatrical release is scheduled for 22 November.
