Karamakate, a powerful Amazonian shaman, last survivor of his people, dwells deep in the jungle, in voluntary isolation. His hollow life is shaken with the arrival of Evan, an American ethnobotanist in search of the Yakruna, a powerful sacred plant, capable of teaching how to dream. Together they embark on a journey into the heart of the Amazon in which past, present and future are intertwined, and during which Karamakatewill slowly begins to regain his lost memories.
Ciro Guerra
Colombian filmmaker born in Río de Oro (Cesar department) in 1981. He studied Film and Television at the National University of Colombia. At the age of 21, after directing four short films that garnered numerous awards, he made his feature film debut with ‘Wandering Shadows’ (2005), which won awards at the festivals of San Sebastian, Toulouse, Trieste, Mar del Plata, Austin, Quito, Santiago, Warsaw, and Havana. His second feature, ‘The Wind Journeys’ (2009), was selected at the Cannes Film Festival as part of Un Certain Regard. His films have been selected and won awards at festivals around the world. He also represented his country in the Oscar race, as he was nominated for ‘Embrace of the Serpent’ (2015), winner of an Ariel Award and likewise awarded at Cannes, Montreal, Istanbul, Mar del Plata, and Rotterdam, among others. His fourth feature film, ‘Birds of Passage’ (2018), won around thirty awards and ‘Waiting for the Barbarians’ premiered in competition at the Venice Film Festival (2019).
