When Isabel Coixet directed her first film in 1988, one could count on one hand the number of women who had done so before her. Since then, she has continued to grow as a filmmaker, becoming one of the most valuable voices in contemporary auteur cinema and a fundamental reference for the new generations of female directors who have revitalized Spanish cinema. ‘Las gafas de Isabel Coixet’ offers a 360-degree panoramic view of her filmography, as well as an intimate portrait of the filmmaker, providing a glimpse into the world according to Isabel Coixet.
Santiago Tabernero
Born in Logroño in 1961, he graduated in Information Science with a major in Journalism from the University of Navarra. In 1986, he began working at RTVE as an editor and producer, and has written several screenplays, including ‘Shortcut to Paradise’ (Gerardo Herrero, 1994), ‘Taxi’ (Carlos Saura, 1996), ‘Glue Sniffer’ (Elia Schneider, 1999), ‘Asphalt’ (Daniel Calparsoro, 2000), and the documentary ‘César y Zaín’ (Larry Levene, 2005). In 1997, he directed his first short film, ‘Tiempo muerto’, and a year later he launched the TVE film show Versión española, which he directed on La 2 for six seasons. In 2005, he made his feature film debut with ‘Life in Colour’, which won the audience award at Seminci, and in 2013 he returned to the festival with ‘Presentimientos’, his second feature film. He has directed specials on Miguel Bosé, Rosario Flores, Raphael, Luz Casal, Nino Bravo, Rosana, and Alejandro Sanz, among others, and for seven years he directed the program ‘Torres y Reyes’ for TVE. Since 2023, he has directed the opening and closing galas of Seminci.
