The personal stories of three women, each set in a different period of Cuban history: the War of Independence (1895), the turbulent Republic of Gerardo Machado (1932), and the triumph of the Revolution (1960). Each episode explores the social and political context through a different aesthetic approach.
Humberto Solás
Born in Havana, Cuba, in 1941, he died in 2008, three years after receiving the National Film Award in his native country. An emblematic driving force of New Latin American Cinema, he graduated in History from the University of Havana and, since 1960, worked as a producer at the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC). After shooting several documentaries and short films, and following the medium-length fiction film ‘Manuela’ (1966), in 1968 he made his feature-length debut with ’Lucía’, which won the Silver Caravel at Seminci and is considered one of the ten most important films in the history of Ibero-American cinema. In addition to the miniseries ‘Le Siècle des Lumières’ (1993), his filmography includes titles such as ‘Cantata de Chile’ (1976), ‘Cecilia’ (1982), ‘A Successful Man’ (1986), ‘Honey for Oshún’ (2001) and ‘Neighborhood Cuba’ (2005), selected and awarded at festivals around the world such as Cannes, Venice, Moscow, Toronto, Montreal, Sundance, San Sebastian and Valladolid.
