In 1799, the German geographer Alexander von Humboldt and the French naturalist Aimé Bonpland embarked with three indigenous people on a long journey through the Orinoco basin in search of unknown species. Their work was captured in the book ‘Journey to the Equinoctial Regions of the New Continent’.
