Francesco, Sergio and Antonio, three young men, live in a small, poverty-stricken village. Since they are all unemployed, they while their time away roaming the streets and chasing girls. One day, Antonio’s aunt asks him to follow her and his cousins in Rome. He accepts her offer and enrolls at a university in Rome, leaving his two friends behind. But eventually, Antonio returns to the village, initially just for a day. Though he boasts about his life, he never goes back to Rome and instead opts for his friends and the place he grew up in, despite all its shortcomings.
Lina Wertmüller
She was born in Rome, Italy, in 1928 and died in 2021, a year after receiving an Honorary Oscar. In 1977, she became the first woman nominated for an Oscar for Best Director, for ‘Seven Beauties’, which received three more nominations. She began her career in the stage world before moving into film as Fellini's assistant director on ‘La Dolce Vita’ and ‘8½’. She made her directorial debut in 1963 with ‘The Basilisks’, which won an award at Locarno and launched a brilliant career with films such as ‘The Seduction of Mimi’ (1972), ‘Love & Anarchy’ (1973), ‘Swept Away’ (1975), ‘A Night Full of Rain’ (1978), ‘Camorra’ (1986) and ‘Ferdinando and Carolina’ (1999), among many others, which competed at festivals such as Cannes, Berlin and Venice. In 2010 she received the Honorary David di Donatello and since 2019 she has had her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
