The platform will be presenting three chapters from the series Perfect Life, co-directed by Leticia Dolera, and the Spanish premiere of an Jang Joon-Hwan’s 1987 and Karen Gillian’s The Party is Just Beginning.

10/14 / 2019.- The 64th Valladolid International Film Week, scheduled from 19 through 26 October, will signal the beginning of the collaboration between Seminci and Movistar+. The subscription platform will present its recently released original series Perfect Life, as well as two feature films not yet released in our country and exclusively available from the platform.

The latter’s presence at Seminci through the Movistar + Section will include the screening of the first three chapters of Perfect Life, a series devised, co-written and co-directed (with Elena Martín and Ginesta Guindal) by Leticia Dolera, who also plays one of the fiction’s lead characters alongside Celia Freijeiro and Aixa Villagrán. Awarded at the Cannesseries festival as Best Series, where it also harvested a Special Prize for the performance of the leading trio, the show addresses the vicissitudes experienced by three women at a turning point in their lives.

1987, by Jang Joon-Hwan

Movistar + will be also presenting two feature films. On the one hand, 1987, a Korean feature film where Jang Joon-hwan reconstructs a real event that happened in his country: the death of a young student in the course of a police interrogation (an episode hidden by the authorities).  The case sparked off a journalistic investigation and an outbreak of protests that eventually overthrew the government. The film, which became a blockbuster in Korea with more than 1 million viewers within the first four days after its release, features actors Kim Yun-seok, Ha Jung-woo, Kim Tae-ri, Park Hee-soon, Lee Hee- joon and Yoo Hae-jin in the main roles.

Additionally, the Movistar+ fest section will be hosting the Spanish premiere of The Party is Just Beginning, the long-feature directorial and screenwriting debut of Scottish actress Karen Gillan. The film tells the story of a teenager who is struggling to overcome the death of her best friend in the oppressive atmosphere of Inverness, where her days are filled with a hardly stimulating job and her night outings involve plenty of alcohol and sex with strangers.

Now debutant filmmaker, Karen Gillian is best known for her performances in box-office hits like Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle or the TV cult series Doctor Who. The actress returns to her hometown in northern Scotland to direct and star in this intimate story, with doses of black humor, about the lack of human connection in today’s society. The film was nominated in 2018 for best film at the BAFTA Scotland awards.
