Seminci will premiere Memento Mori, an original Prime Video series shot in Valladolid starring Yon González, Francisco Ortiz and Juan Echanove

The screening will take place at the UNESCO Valladolid City of Film Ceremony with a wide representation of this work by Zebra Producciones based on the crime thriller by writer César Pérez Gellida.

The International Film Festival will premiere in its 68th edition Memento Mori, a Spanish series produced by Zebra (iZen group) starring Yon Gonzalez, Francisco Ortiz and Juan Echanove that will be released exclusively on October 27 on Prime Video in Spain and Portugal. The presentation at the festival will take place on October 24 at the Zorrilla Theater, within the framework of the UNESCO Valladolid City of Film Ceremony, with the screening of the first two episodes, accompanied by a large representation of the series’ team.

Memento Mori adapts to the screen the novel of the same name by writer César Pérez Gellida, who sets this crime thriller in his hometown, Valladolid, starring Yon González (El internado, Gran Hotel), Francisco Ortiz (Amar es para siempre, El Cid) and Juan Echanove (Madregilda, Desaparecidos). Based on the first novel of the literary trilogy Versos, canciones y trocitos de carne, it deals with the relationship between a murderer (González) and the policeman who pursues him (Ortiz), advised by an expert in serial killers (Echanove).

Set mainly in Valladolid, the series begins with the discovery of the corpse of a young woman with amputated eyelids that appears in the city. Inspector Sancho (Francisco Ortiz) foresees a chain of homicides, and with the support of “Carapocha” (Juan Echanove), one of the greatest experts in serial killers, follows the trail of corpses that Augusto (Yon González), a sociopath with refined tastes, leaves behind in Valladolid. They soon discover that they are dealing with a killer who commits crimes with a soundtrack and signs the bodies of his victims with poems.

Olivia Baglivi (Las niñas de cristal, Libélulas), Manuela Vellés (La novia, Historias para no dormir), Fernando Soto (Kiki, el amor se hace, La casa de papel), Juan Fernández (Feria, El Cid) and Carlota Baró (El secreto de Puente Viejo, Amar es para siempre), among others, make up the cast of Memento Mori, which will have six 45-minute episodes.

The series has been filmed in the city of Valladolid in 2022 with the support of the Valladolid City Council through the Sociedad Mixta de Turismo and the Valladolid Film Commission (VAFC). The gala will be held as part of Seminci to commemorate the capital’s designation as a UNESCO Creative Cities Network Film City four years ago.

Memento Mori is a new production by Zebra Producciones (Jose Velasco, Sara Fernández-Velasco, Luis Arranz, Marco A. Castillo and Ibón Celaya), which also made the series El Cid. Luis Arranz also repeats as co-screenwriter in the adaptation of this thriller along with Germán Aparicio and Abraham Sastre. Marco A. Castillo and Fran Parra are in charge of the direction.
