  • From 27 to 29 October, Seminci held the second edition of La Meseta, a short film development lab launched by the festival in collaboration with the European University Miguel de Cervantes (UEMC) and coordinated by Dirdira Lab.

The Valladolid International Film Festival held the second edition of La Meseta. Short Film Development Laboratory from 27 to 29 October. The initiative, organised by SEMINCI in collaboration with the European University Miguel de Cervantes (UEMC) and coordinated by Dirdira Lab, brought together eight projects in development for a programme of training, mentoring and guidance designed to support filmmakers and production companies at the various stages of creating their short films.

Over the three days, the participating teams worked with producers Garbiñe Ortega and Leire Apellaniz, and filmmakers Chema García Ibarra and Ion de Sosa, who led the mentoring sessions and masterclasses. The programme combined training sessions with individual meetings to address the creative and production challenges of each project.

The eight selected projects were El Instagram de mi padre, directed by Laura Bermúdez and produced by Cooperativa Cinematográfica Virgen de los Dolores; Almudena La Zurda, by Sil Mares, produced by Pegatum and La Salita Films; Clarianes, by Ángel Tolosa, produced by Amora Films; and Versión Española, by José Luis Aparicio, with Estudio ST and Free Media. Completing the selection were Hoy que vuelves, by Eduard Amado (Colosé Producciones); El sol, by Blanca Bonet (La Costa Filmmakers and Tiwa Studio); El sol no calienta en casa, by Jazmin Naomi Aliaga (Candela García DiSanzo); and Ni pena ni gloria, directed and produced by Jorge Oltra and Alicia Villar.

The second edition of the laboratory concluded with a networking event bringing together short film projects selected for After ECAM, La Meseta and SEMINCI Factory. The session included a masterclass on distribution led by Jorge Rivero, Director of the Aguilar Film Festival, focusing on the opportunities available for short films to reach audiences once completed.

As part of this edition, five awards were presented to support the development and production of the selected projects. The awards were made possible through the collaboration of companies affiliated with ALIA (Audiovisual Industry Alliance), an organisation with which SEMINCI recently signed an agreement, and the Madrid School of Cinematography and Audiovisual (ECAM).

Post-production company PICNIC presented two awards, covering sound design, sound mixing, colour grading and DCP creation, to El sol and Almudena La Zurda. Meanwhile, ONLY POSTPRODUCTION awarded Versión Española a prize comprising post-production consultancy, colour grading and DCP creation. Hoy que vuelves will receive specialist location consultancy thanks to SPIRAL LOCATIONS, while Clarianes was awarded the IMPULSO ECAM prize, which provides personalised guidance from the school.

With this second edition, La Meseta is consolidating its place within SEMINCI as an initiative supporting short film development and fostering connections between emerging filmmakers and professionals from the audiovisual industry.
