1,200 years ago, five families crossed southward over the Cantabrian Mountains to settle in a highland area of pastures and bears. To support this endeavor, Count Munio Núñez, acting on behalf of Asturian King Alfonso II, granted these new settlers of the Palentine Mountains a series of privileges and exempted them from certain obligations. He documented this in a pioneering and historically significant charter, later known as the Carta Puebla or Fuero de Brañosera. This historic event marked a pivotal episode that forms part of the origins of Castilla.
