Hong Kong, April 1994. Police officer 223, who has just been ditched by his girlfriend, runs into a mysterious woman and experiences the sudden intuition that he will fall in love with her ‘in 57 hours’. Facing the counter of a fast food restaurant called Midnight Express, police officer 223 sees Faye, the waitress, and somehow senses that ‘six hours later’ she will fall in love with another man. Faye is now waiting on police officer 663, whose air-hostess girlfriend has just left him. Faye then sneaks into the bedroom of police officer 663 and tidies his things. While she is doing that, she is surprised by the policeman, who asks her for a date. The two arrange to meet at a bar called California.
