Bamby Salcedo is turning 50 years old. For most people, a 50th birthday is a time of reflection, but for Bamby, it is a moment to celebrate. She is a true survivor: a transgender, HIV-positive, undocumented immigrant, victim of multiple sexual assaults, in recovery from narcotics addiction. Living through years as a sex worker and spending much of her time on the streets, she has emerged as one of the most recognizable trans activists in Southern California.
With a PHD in Audiovisual Communication from the Complutense University and a master’s degree in Documentary Filmmaking from the New York Film Academy, from 2000 to 2009 he served as Marketing Manager and Sales Director at BocaBoca Producciones. From 2010 to 2011 he was a member of the advisory committee for grant-in-aid schemes at ICAA (Spain’s Film and Audiovisual Arts Institute). In 2011 he founded his company Festimania Pictures, with which he produced and directed several feature films and short films awarded at festivals and distributed internationally. Since 2014 he has taught at higher education institutions like the Camilo José Cela University, the Escuela TAI and Barcelona’s EAE Business School, and since 2018 he has collaborated with the magazine Cineinforme. He has directed short films like ‘(Latin) American Dream’ (2018), ‘Espanomics’ (2018) or ‘Veterana’ (2019), and feature films like ‘Música maestros’ (2014) or ‘LA QueenCiañera’ (2021).
