Special Jury Prize winner at the Locarno Film Festival, Kurdwin Ayub's long-awaited new feature film after Sonne (2022), produced once again by Ulrich Seidl, returns to the culture clash between East and West through the tribulations of a group of young women, in a realistic thriller about the boundaries of personal responsibility in the face of collective injustice. After her sporting career in Austria has stalled, Sarah, a passionate mixed martial arts fan, accepts an offer to become the personal trainer of three sisters from a wealthy family in Jordan. Once in the country, she soon realises that behind the Al Farahadi's appearance of privilege lies a much more disturbing reality. Used to pushing her body to the limit, the prestigious dancer and choreographer Florentina Holzinger also gives her soul in her screen debut.

Kurdwin Ayub

Born in 1990 in Iraq, she is a filmmaker and artist based in Vienna. Her first fictional feature film, ‘Sonne’ (2022), premiered at the Berlinale in the Encounters competition and won the Best First Feature Award. She was also nominated for European Discovery at the 35th European Film Awards. ‘Moon’ (2024), her second feature film, premiered at the Locarno’s Concorso Internazionale, where it won the Special Jury prize, the Boccalino D’oro Prize of the Independent Film Critics and a special mention from the Ecumenical Jury.
