Shooting for Mirza

Juan Gautier
España / Bosnia y Herzegovina
 - 2021

Mirza Delibašić, a European basketball legend of the 70s, voluntarily stayed with his people during the Bosnian War instead of escaping with his family, becoming a symbol for his country. Today, his son Danko moves between admiration for his legacy, the weight of his shadow, and the hurt of his absence. The journey to rebuild his figure as a national hero will lead Danko to discover his own place as a father.

Juan Gautier

Graduated from the Complutense and as a technician at IORTVE, he was selected at the Berlinale’s Talent Campus. He began at the age of eighteen as an assistant director for Fernando Colomo PC in films like ‘Women in Prison’ or ‘Not Love, Just Frenzy’, among others. Later, as a director, he combined television work for generalist broadcasters (Telemadrid, Tele 5, Antena 3 and La Sexta) with video clips, educational films and self-promotions. In 2005 his film ‘Sanfermines 78’, the second highest-grossing documentary of the year, was theatrically released. He has directed five short films, including ‘Metropolis Ferry’ or ‘Pornobrujas’, with which garnered more than a hundred awards at international festivals. In 2006 he founded Smiz & Pixel, a production company with which he develops documentary and fiction projects. In 2015, within this same section, he screened ‘Tánger Gool’.
