Manuel is preparing his next show, a musical about making a musical show. He seeks the help of Sara, his ex-wife and renowned choreographer, to direct it. In the casting, the young Ines will appear as a rising star while dealing with her father and the local mob. During the rehearsals, the passion and tension will grow among the dancers. Powerful Mexican music sets the tone while a play emerges in which tragedy, fiction and reality intertwine.
He was born in 1932 in Huesca and in 1957 he graduated from the Official Film School. ‘The Delinquents’, his first fiction feature film, participated in the Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Jury’s Special Award in 1974 for ‘La prima Angélica’, the Jury’s Grand Prix in 1976 for ‘Cría cuervos’ and two awards for ‘Carmen’ (1983). At the Berlin Film Festival, he won two Silver Bears for best director for ‘The Hunt’ (1966) and ‘Peppermint Frappé’ (1967), and a Golden Bear for ‘Deprisa, deprisa’ (1981). He received three nominations for the Oscars and two for the Cesars, and he has won a Bafta, the Goya for best director and best screenplay for ‘Ay, Carmela!’ (1990), among other accolades. In 2009 he received the Spike of Honor in the 54th edition of Seminci and was the subject of a comprehensive retrospective.
