Emilia Pardo Bazán, one of the most eminent writers of Spanish literature from the 19th and early 20th centuries, confronts the Royal Spanish Academy, whose exclusively male members won’t let her join the institution, and tries to convince them otherwise. This is the pretext for a film that combines fiction, interviews, archival material and the locations where she spent her life (A Coruña, Madrid, Paris...) in order to transcend the character and meet Emilia, a distinguished writer, but above all a woman who fought for the liberties in which she believed and a strong advocate of women’s rights in a difficult time.
Telecommunications engineer who, after eleven years working in this capacity, founded Salto de Eje PC to produce and direct his successful short film ‘La mudanza’ (2000). Since then he has directed and produced three more short films (‘Derecho de admisión’, ‘Teresa y Luisa Esmeralda’ and ‘Una humilde propuesta’) and five feature films —’Emilia’, ‘The Century of Galdós’, ‘Donde el bosque se espesa’, ‘Mami Blue’ and ‘El lunar’—, titles that have been selected and awarded at festivals around the world. He currently has two feature films in development: ‘Radicales’ and ‘Mr. Nadie’. In addition, he is a stage director and producer (‘Una pareja cualquiera’ and ‘La bañera’) and a teacher at the TAI School. He has worked as producer in films like ‘Son of Cain’ or the stage play ‘El canto de Juan Rana’.
