Jean-Pierre Dardenne, Luc Dardenne
Jean-Pierre Dardenne was born in Engis (Belgium) in 1951. Luc Dardenne was born in Awirs (Belgium) in 1954. In 1975, Jean- Pierre and Luc Dardenne founded the production company Dérives, which has produced more than eighty documentaries. In 1994, they founded the production company Les Films du Fleuve. ‘The Promise’, their introduction to world cinema, won the Golden Spike in the 41st edition of the Valladolid Festival. With ‘Rosetta’, which closed the 44th Seminci, they received the Palme d’Or at Cannes as well as the award for Best Actress (Emilie Dequenne). In 2002, ‘The Son’, which screened at the 47th edition of Seminci, won the Award for Best Actor at Cannes (Olivier Gourmet), while their following feature ‘The Child’ earned them their second Palme d’Or at the French festival (it also screened in the 50th edition of the Valladolid Festival). In 2011 ‘The Kid with a Bike’ received a special mention for young actor Thoms Doret. Their 2014 film ‘Two Days, One Night’ opened the 59th Valladolid International Film Festival. In 2019 they won the award for Best Director at Cannes and the Miguel Delibes prize for Best Screenplay in Valladolid with ‘Young Ahmed’.
