A phone call brings Manuel back to the village. His grandmother Mima, who for years wrote him letters and reflections, is no longer quite herself: her memories have begun to fracture. Manuel decides to read them with her to see what remains in place, and in doing so he discovers his own need to write. Over the course of three years, he compiles an archive that documents both a relationship and its transformation. As Mima’s voice fades, Manuel finds in music a way to sustain what is slipping away: not to hold on to it —for he realises that is impossible— but to accompany it while it is still there. From this realisation, 'El Nieto Manuel' is born.
