Born in Segovia in 1970, he began studying law at the Autonomous University of Madrid, and while studying abroad in Paris in 1992, after signing up for a drama workshop, he experienced «an explosion of sensations and knowledge» that led him to discover his true calling as an actor. Back in Madrid, enamoured with the craft, he enrolled at the Resad, completed his training at Middlesex University (London) and graduated in Dramatic Arts in 1997.
Since then, he has worked continuously, participating in more than a hundred plays, short films, feature films, and television series. He has been nominated for three Goya Awards, the first as Best New Actor in 2006 for ‘Princesses’ by Fernando León de Aranoa; the second in 2017 as Best Actor for ‘The Fury of a Patient Man’ by Raúl Arévalo; and the last as Best Supporting Actor in 2020 for Benito Zambrano’s ‘Out in the Open’. His passion for the stage led him to create in 2009, together with Nacho Marraco, the Teatro del Barro stage company, which he considers his «life’s work».
After making the leap to cinema with films such as ‘The Longest Penalty Shot in the World’ and ‘El club de los suicidas’, both by Roberto Santiago, he has appeared in more than thirty feature films, including ‘The Mule’ (Michael Radford, 2013), ‘People in Places’ (Juan Cavestany, 2013), ‘Palm Trees in the Snow’ (Fernando González Molina, 2015), ‘Kiki, Love to Love’ (Paco León, 2016), ‘Smoke & Mirrors’ (Alberto Rodríguez, 2016) and ‘Gold’ (Agustín Díaz Yanes, 2017). His latest film work includes ‘La casa’ by Álex Montoya; ‘The Captive’ by Alejandro Amenábar; ‘A Family Night-Mare’ by Mar Olid; ‘Sacamantecas’ by David P. Sañudo; and ‘La luz’ by Fernando Franco.
He also has an extensive career in television, with his latest projects including titles such as Rodrigo Sorogoyen’s ‘Apagón’, ‘Vestidas de azul’, ‘Asuntos internos’, ‘The Snow Girl’ and ‘Berlín II’. On stage, he has worked on the productions ‘Urtain’ and ‘Trainspotting’, among others. For his work in ‘Los miércoles no existen’ and ‘Bent’, he won two theatre awards from the Actors’ Union, respectively for best supporting actor and best secondary actor. In 2026, he will premiere the production ‘La escopeta nacional’, directed by Juan Echanove, for the Teatro Español.
