Filmmaker, lecturer and researcher. Together with Concha Barquero, he has formed a creative tandem since the early 2000s. His films explore the topics of absence, memory, history and politics. His first fea- ture film, ‘Pepe el andaluz’ (2012), draws on his family history to explore emotional wounds, secrets and love. For a decade, the filmmakers researched the work of Fernando Ruiz Vergara, director of the documentary ‘Rocío’ (1980), which was censored by a Spanish court when democracy was already in full swing. This in- quiry resulted in the short film ‘Descartes’ (2021) and the feature-length ‘Resistance Reels’ (2024), which won the DOC award-Spain at Seminci. He is a lecturer in Audiovisual Communication at the University of Málaga. His publications include ‘Post-censorship in documentary cinema during the transition’ (2018) and the co-edited volume ‘The documentary in Spain: history, aesthetics and identity’ (2023).
