Director, screenwriter, actress and writer from Valladolid, she tried her hand at biology and design and fashion before studying acting at the School of Drama in her home town. She began her professional career in film under the guidance of Imanol Uribe, playing the character of Lourdes in the film ‘Numbered Days’, for which she received her first Goya nomi- nation for Best New Actress and the Ondas Award alongside Candela Peña and Ruth Gabriel.
Over the following thirty years, she worked on the big screen under the orders of various directors, in films for which she has received awards such as the Golden Egret at the Miami Hispanic Film Festival, the Silver Biznaga at the Málaga Film Festival on two occasions, the Goya for Best Supporting Ac- tress for the film ‘Tapas’, and the Crystal Globe for Best Actress at Karlovy Vary, amongst others.
She has been directed by John Malkovich in ‘Dancers Upstairs’, by Steven Soderbergh in ‘Che’, by Paul McGuigan in ‘The Rec- koning’, by Antonio Chavarrias in ‘The Chosen’, and by Asghar Farhadi in ‘Everybody Knows’, to mention but a few.
Last year, she won the Actors’ Union Award for her portrayal of Juana in Manuel Gómez Pereira’s ‘The Dinner’ and received several nominations, including Best Supporting Actress at the Goya Awards and the Feroz Awards.
Her television work includes ‘The Time in Between’ —the second season of which, ‘Sira’, has just been screened at the San Se- bastián Film Festival—, as well as ‘Disappeared’, ‘Marbella’ and ‘Ena: Queen Victoria Eugenia’, among many others.
She combines her professional career as an actress with her passion for literature. In 2006, she started out as a writer with her short story ‘Hace tiempo pasó un forastero’ which was adapted for film and won an award at Seminci. In 2023, she published ‘La sombra de la tierra’, the television adaptation of which she wrote and directed for Atresplayer, marking her debut as a director. Her second novel, ‘La educación del mons- truo’, set in Düsseldorf during the 1960s, won the 30th Prima- vera Novel Prize last February.
