Six women roam the neon-lit city of Paris after dark. At bus stops and corner shops, in toilets and bars, they give voice to their dreams, sexual desires, and uncertainties about the future. A filmmaker struggles to understand the film she is making. A black, single mother refuses the categories imposed upon her. A former sex worker reflects on her past. Beatrice Gibson
Her films are known for their experimental and emotive nature. Collapsing fiction and documentary, they range from experimental autobiography to nocturnal thriller, casting friends and influences as their characters and co-creators. She is twice a winner of the Rotterdam International Film Festival Tiger Award for Best Short Film (2009 and 2013) and was shortlisted for the Jarman Award for Artist's film in 2013 and 2019. She is also the winner of 17th Baloise Art Prize, Art Basel. Her film ‘Two Sisters Who Are Not Sisters’ (2019) premiered at Cannes’ Directors’ Fortnight, and ‘Someplace in your Mouth’ (2024), co-directed by Nick Gordon, premiered at TIFF. With ‘La Nuit’ (2026), her feature film debut, she won the award for best emerging director in the Filmmakers of the Present section at Locarno.
