Have you ever wondered which film you’d like to live in if you had the chance? Spanish filmmaker Pablo Maqueda has the answer: it’s the sunny Italy of 1993 in Nanni Moretti’s ‘Caro diario’. Thirty years after its release, a young filmmaker sets off on a motorbike ‘road movie’ through Italian cinema. A film that pays tribute to life through the history of cinema. A documentary that invites us to join the adventure and to reflect, with humour and irony, on our own transformation.
Pablo Maqueda
Filmmaker and producer born in 1985 in Madrid. Selected by Variety in 2023 for its ‘Top Talents to Watch’ list at the Cannes Film Festival, in 2020 he wrote and directed, in collaboration with La Cinémathèque Française and director Werner Herzog, the documentary ‘Dear Werner’ (Walking on Cinema), which premiered at festivals including Turin, Seville and Chicago and was nominated for the Feroz Awards, amongst many other accolades. In 2023, he co-wrote – alongside Paco Bezerra and Haizea Viana – and directed the thriller ‘The Unknown Girl’, a film adaptation of the acclaimed play ‘Grooming’ by Bezerra himself, winner of the National Prize for Dramatic Literature. The film premiered in competition in the Official Selection at the Málaga and Bifan (South Korea) film festivals. His new documentary, ‘Caro Nanni’ (2026), was selected for the Film Academy’s Residencies programme.
