There are people who spend their entire lives in the same house, their childhood home where their family's past rests. Benigno, at eightyseven, still sleeps, eats, and dreams in the home where he was born, the home rooted in the earth yet reaching for the sky. The house stands alone, along with Benigno and his tortoise, Totó, caught between the limbo of memories, the rituals of daily life, and the anticipation of the final day.
David Baute
He studied audiovisual media production at RTVE’s Official Institute, video and film editing at the TAI Schoola and film directing at the Havana Film School. He is the artistic director of the MiradasDoc Documentary Film Festival and the Canary Islands International Environmental Film Festival (Ficmec), as well as having steered the Área Garachico project in his home town since 2011. His work as a filmmaker includes the non-fiction feature films ‘Ella(s)’ (2010), selected for the Guadalajara Film Festival (Mexico); ‘Milagros’ (2018), which premiered at the Málaga Film Festival; and ‘Climate Exodus’ (2020), which won the Green Spike at Seminci. In 2024, he premiered his animated feature film ‘Black Butterflies’ at the Annecy Festival, before it was selected for film fests such as Mar del Plata, Idfa and Havana, and went on to win the Goya Award for Best Animated Film.
