The last inhabitants of a mountain village hold out against an era that is transforming the region’s way of life. Eladio, the forest ranger, witnesses the fate of a community where humans are disappearing while animals remain. As a female bear roams the valley, invisible threads are woven, creating stories of care, loss, and resilience.
Sebastián Uría
Born in 1988 in Ponferrada (León), he studied History at the University of Granada before completing a Master's degree in Film Directing and Production at La Satis, École supérieure publique de cinéma de France in Marseille. His first short fiction film, ‘Saudade’ (2015), won awards at various festivals in Europe and Africa, and he later directed ‘Marseille en V.O.’ for the MuCEM (Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilizations). Through an observational approach and a precise use of cinematic time, his films explore the relationship between community, landscape, and memory, with a particular focus on the processes of rural depopulation and the tensions between the human and the non-human. Having directed the short films ‘O paxaro afundido’ (2019), ‘O derradeiro tiro’ (2023) and ‘Segador’ (2024), ‘Farewell, Rivers’ marks his feature film debut.
