Spanish premiere
After hearing a prophecy that his elderly mother may die soon, Sakol sets outon a one-day pilgrimage to nine temples as a remedy. Just two weeks before her birthday, he brings his ailing mother, along with his wife, brother, sister, and children, on the journey, moving through the splendor of Thai temple architecture. From one temple to the next, the nine family members continue their rituals, while the grandmother of the family grows increasingly weary, both physically and mentally.
Sompot Chidgasornpongse
A filmmaker born in Bangkok (Thailand) in 1980. He holds a degree in Architecture from Chulalongkorn University and a Master’s degree in Film and Video from the California Institute of the Arts. His short films have been screened at international festivals such as Rotterdam, Oberhausen, Visions du Réel, Viennale, IndieLisboa, Ghent and Singapore. His first documentary, ‘Railway Sleepers’ (2016), was first screened in the competition section at the Busan Film Festival and had its European premiere at the Berlinale. He has also worked closely with Apichatpong Weerasethakul as an assistant director on numerous films, including ‘Tropical Malady’ (2004), ‘Syndromes and a Century’ (2006), ‘Cemetery of Splendour’ (2015) and ‘Memoria’ (2021).
