Slimane, an old, weary, and sick trucker, and Smaïn, his loader, are tasked with transporting a cargo deep into the Algerian Sahara. Along the way, they are violently attacked and their truck is stolen. When Anna, a young French researcher, and Sofiane, her traveling companion, come to their aid, the film plunges with them into the desert.
Rabah Ameur-Zaïmeche
A filmmaker, actor and producer born in 1966 in Beni Zid (Algeria) and raised in France, who proudly embraces this dual cultural heritage. His films have consistently travelled back and forth over the Mediterranean. He made his debut in 2011 with ‘Wesh Wesh, What’s Happening?’, which won an award at the Berlin Film Festival and was nominated for the European Discovery prize at the European Film Awards, whilst his second film, ‘Bled Number One’ (2006), serves as the Algerian counterpart to his debut. With ‘Dernier maquis’ (2008), he took part in the Directors’ Fortnight at Cannes, and with ‘Smugglers’ Songs’ (2011), he competed at Locarno. His ‘Story of Judas’ (2015, winner of the Ecumenical Jury Prize in the Berlinale’s Forum section) is set in Algeria, whilst in ‘South Terminal’ (2019, premiered in competition at Locarno) he brings together France and Algeria within the same civil war setting. ‘Algerican Road’ (2026), his latest film, opened the FIDMarseille, which dedicated a comprehensive retrospective to his work, screening all eight of his feature films.
