Young David Gray arrives at an inn, where he receives a night-time visit from an old man who, without further explanation, tells him, ‘She must not die’, and hands him a package with a note that reads, ‘To be opened after my death’. A supernatural force leads the young man to a solitary castle, where the old man who sought his help lives with his two daughters, Gisele and Léone. There, David discovers that Léone suffers from a strange and rapidly progressing illness.
