A deaf mute teenager enters a specialized boarding school where, to survive, he becomes part of a wild organization —the tribe. There, they carry out the most shocking and ruthless activities, creating a universe of their own, separate from the world around them. But soon something will happen to one of the girls in the group, and the situation will inevitably lead her to clash with the group’s hierarchy.
Myroslav Slaboshpytskiy
Born in 1974, in Kiev (Ukraine) he graduated from the filmmaking department of the Kiev State Institute of Theatre and Arts. He has worked at film studios in Kiev (the Dovzhenko Film Studio) and in St. Petersburg (the Lenfilm Studios). His second and third short films, ‘Diagnosis’ (2009) and ‘Deafness’ (2010), competed for the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival, and with ‘Nuclear Waste’ (2012) he won the Silver Leopard of the Locarno Film Festival’s competition program Pardi di Domani. In the autumn of 2010, he received a grant for development of his first full-length feature film, ‘The Tribe’, from the Hubert Bals Fund of Rotterdam Film Festival. The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival’s Critics’ Week, where it won the Grand Prix before embarking on a tour of festivals around the world and winning the EFA award in the European Discovery category. In 2025, he was one of seven directors to direct an episode of the anthology film ‘Animals in War’.
