A young Spanish journalist delves into the intertwined lives of two lovers whilst investigating the origins of an old violin. The investigation takes him to Singapore in 1941, where the dreams of two young violinists, Kai and Fei, are shattered by the Japanese invasion of Malaysia during the Second World War. Kai joins the Resistance and promises Fei he will return, but he disappears without a trace. Over the next twenty years, Fei becomes a renowned violinist, performing on stages all over the world whilst keeping alive the hope of being reunited with her lost love.
Ervin Han, Raúl García
Ervin Han is a filmmaker, screenwriter, producer and co-founder of the animation studio Robot Playground Media. Over more than two decades, he has developed and produced animation projects for international partners such as Disney, Warner Bros. Discovery, Netflix and Mediacorp, whilst also championing original stories from Singapore and South-East Asia. Raúl García was born in Madrid and worked for a decade at Walt Disney Studios on films such as ‘The Land Before Time’ and ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit?’. In 2002, he wrote and co-directed ‘The Living Forest’, winner of the Goya Award, and produced ‘The Lady and the Reaper’, which was nominated for an Oscar. In 2013, he directed ‘Extraordinary Tales’, which was nominated for two Annie Awards. ‘The Violinist’ (2026), co-directed by the pair, premiered in competition at Annecy, where it won the Grand Cristal for best feature film and the Sacem Award for best original music.
