Sofía, a psychology professor, has just completed her postgraduate studies in Valparaíso, and is returning to her hometown of Valdivia when a girl’s body is discovered there. The news dismays city residents, and triggers memories of sexual abuse from her own childhood.
A Chilean filmmaker who has directed more than 30 films, which address the situation of women in a patriarchal culture and vindicate their perspective on historical events. Her films have won awards at San Sebastian, been shortlisted to represent Portugal at the Oscars, and been nominated for the Golden Bear (Berlinale) and the Golden Lion (Venice). She has also edited dozens of films, including more than 80 by Raúl Ruiz. She is currently working with Poetastros on the rescue, repatriation, restoration, post- production and completion of Raúl Ruiz’s film, ‘La colonia penal’. Holder of an honorary doctorate from the University of Valparaíso and recipient of the French Senate’s Medal of Honour, in 2026 she will be awarded the Honorary Spike at Seminci.
