After being arrested and having his medical practice shut down, a disillusioned Iranian doctor loses faith in the future. Determined to end his life, he spends one final day visiting his siblings and mother to prepare them for his departure. Their compassion, care and companionship slowly reconcile him with reality.
Ali Asgari
Born in Tehran in 1982. He graduated from Tehran Azad University and studied in Rome before directing acclaimed short films including ‘Barbie’ (2012), ‘More Than Two Hours’ (2013, presented at Cannes), ‘The Baby’ (2014, premiered at Venice) and ‘The Silence’ (2016, co-directed with Farnoosh Samadi), which won the Golden Spike at Valladolid after competing at Cannes). In 2017, his first feature film, ‘Disappearance’, was developed at the Cinéfondation Residency of the Cannes Film Festival, selected for Venice’s Orizzonti Section, and competed in Valladolid as part of the Meeting Point selection. ‘Until Tomorrow’ (2022), his second feature film, premiered at the Berlinale in 2022, and a year later he co-directed ‘Terrestrial Verses’ with Alireza Khatami, which premiered in Un Certain Regard at Cannes. ‘Higher Than Acidic Clouds’ (2024) premiered at IDFA and ‘Divine Comedy’ (2025) in the Orizzonti Section at Venice, where he returned to the Official Selection with ‘A Bit of Light’ (2026).
