An ode to friendship that revolves around the relationship between a veteran police officer and his young informant – two men at odds over their principles, yet united by the loneliness of their jobs, their loyalty and a sense of abandonment. He studied Film and Political Science in Madrid and New York before making his feature film debut with ‘Jump Into the Void’ (1995), a story about exclusion and poverty steeped in social criticism —as is much of his subsequent filmography — which had its world premiere in the Panorama section at the Berlin Film Festival. This was followed by ‘Passages’ (1995), presented at the Cannes Film Festival; ‘Blinded' (1997), about a young ETA member determined to abandon the armed struggle; ‘Asphalt’ (1999), which deals with a love triangle combining humour and film noir; ‘Warriors’ (2002), a portrait of Spanish soldiers stationed in Bosnia and Kosovo; and the psychological thriller ‘The Absent’ (2005). In 2008, he directed the miniseries ‘The Punishment’, followed by ‘La ira’, ‘Inocentes’, ‘Tormenta’, ‘Víctor Ros’ and ‘Silent Cargo’, amongst others. In the thriller genre, he has directed films such as ‘To Steal from a Thief’ (which attracted over a million cinema-goers), ‘Twin Murders: The Silence of the White City’, ‘All the Names of God’, ‘Sky High’ and ‘The Courier’.
